Today the 3D environment combined with the flip-book-esq character models seem comical and dated, but at the time the game's design was impressive and detailed. The decision to render the people who populate the game as images instead of 3D polygons meant that they avoided the uncanny valley to a large extent. Even if the character models still seem to stutter and move strangely, it comes off mostly as charming, like Smether's eyebrow and Vlad's little grin. The ship was well-researched enough to feature in documentaries and in museums as a 3D model.The characters and the setting are wonderful, and the game is challenging but worthwhile. Most of the difficulty is in listening what the characters have to say and noticing what they do and applying that knowledge, instead of using inventory objects to overcome obstacles, making this game different from other excellent p&c adventure games, like Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle.This version of the game works well on my Windows 7 computer, though sometimes the black screens and black pixel smears which can plague the graphics seemed to randomly appear. I tried a variety of different compatability settings but it seems that the graphical distortions come and go as they please. However, minimizing the game will always distort the graphics.GLITCH: This version has a glitch when you walk out of the Grand Staircase onto the Boat-deck, you instead exit onto the A-deck promenade, unless you exit via the gymnasium. This problem is not present on the game when I use the original disks unless a patch is used to force the game to work on current operating systems.PROS-great story-great characters, even the villains are interesting-fun but difficult puzzles, which you can sometimes skip if you want-multiple endings (though all are very similar)-excellent graphics for 1990s and a clear commitment to detail and historical accuracy-"point-and-click" game that uses WASD (remappable) for movement with fluid transitionsNEUTRAL-you can die, so diligent saving is necessaryCONS(UELO!)-no access to settings or game files from the main menu-there is an inconvenient but not game-breaking glitch (see above)-full screen only-The purser needs to just not. Don't get me wrong, Titanic: Adventure Out Of Time is actually one of my most favorite Titanic games. But the Steam and GOG version of this game is complete garbage. When you startup the game, nothing seems to be wrong with it at the first sight. But when you get more into the game (either in the Story mode or Tour mode), you'll notice that the dialogue of the characters often ends before the finish their sentences. Also when you move forward or turn right, the resolution doesn't re-adjust. It only re-adjusts, if you turn left. These two issues might annoy some people (like me) but they aren't as bad as the following issues.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Here are three major Issues, this version of the game has :1) When you are on the Boat-deck level of the Grand Staircase and try to exit it by going through the doors on both sides of the room, you are instead spawned on the A-deck Promenade. The only way to spawn on the Boat-deck is via the Gymnasium door.2) During Tour mode, when you enter the A-deck corridor, a message pops up and says that it came to a Scripting Error. You can't continue moving through the A-deck corridor because of the error, but you can turn around, and get back to the Grand Staircase.3) This version of the game RANDOMLY CRASHES ! And i know that this shouldn't happen. I've been playing the downloaded DOSBOX emulated version of the game for many years and IT NEVER CRASHED for me.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you want the game to work properly, DON'T BUY THIS VERSION and instead download the DOSBOX version from the internet.. I had this game back in the 90s when I was a kid and played the crap out of it a few years ago I rebought the game but as soon as I saw it on Steam it was in my cart two seconds later.It is a really great mystery game based on espionage, item collecting and puzzel solving, where you explore the ship talking to strangers looking for clues and objects where eventually your choices and items affect the outcome of the game.There are a number of different endings some good some bad but also a perfect ending as well to work towards.I think most people who will be interested in this game are people who played it back when it first came out and people into older games.Graphics wise it is dated and some scenes it can look pretty bad but it not once affected the game for me or made it hard to play.I always thought this game had a cool menu system as well (saving is manual no auto saving).I really recommend this game :) get some paper to makes notes with while playing!. It was honestly an amazing surprise to see this masterpiece of video gaming from the 90's come to Steam where it can finally get more recognition that it deserves. From my earliest memories of PC gaming this has remained one of my top and all time cherished games not only for it's introduction to it's interesting point and click gameplay but the atmosphere it set that still both thrills and haunts me to this day.The story begins with you, Frank Carlson, reminiscing and regretting that fateful voyage many years after from his flat in London during World War II. Used and discarded from the service he wonders what things would have been like if he had managed to do things differently on the night the titanic struck the iceberg. Suddenly air raid sirens scream out and a bombing run begins from the Germans. An bomb falls in your street and the flat is destroyed yet you are somehow transported back to that night onboard the Titanic. It's never quite explained why but it's an interesting way to relive Carlson's past and your new decisions can alter history. Not just the fate of the characters or the ship but the fate of the world. That may seem dramatic but it's true and done in a pretty believable way.From talking to other passengers, exploring the ship and solving puzzles you manage to piece together the conspiracy that is taking place and ultimately get an ending that determines how well you did. And that's where the fate of the world come into play. The puzzles are pretty simple as you might expect from a point and click game but some can be a little more tricky such as trying to find a single, tiny cuff-link on board a huge ship or getting a long combination code to a Matryoshka Doll safe (Russian nesting doll).(Luckily for me when I got my copy many, many years ago from a car boot sale the person had printed out hints and a pretty thorough walk through and left it in there for the next person. Very handy for when I got stuck.)The control scheme is extremely simple with just the arrow keys and mouse which need no explanation. You have an inventory bag for when you need to use items or read over notes that have been collected.Adventure out of Time also nicely added in a mode that lets your tour the ship without having to worry about the story so you can just sit back, relax and wander round and enjoy those nostalgic views of 90's video game architecture.The biggest thing for me though in this game is it's beautiful soundtrack which can give off that vibe of being stuck in a classy ship with an uneasy feeling knowing the ship is doomed. Erik Holt did an amazing job and the song "2nd Class - F Deck" will always give me nightmares. Every time I heard it I just wanted to rush out of the area because it is so damn chilling! I recommend checking out this soundtrack on YouTube if you love haunting music. If you've played this before then you'll remember everything.If you're a fan of puzzle games or want to check out some games from the evolving times of the 1990's then definitely give this one a go.
